I’ve always had a liking for what people do with these crazy autumn fruits, and someday hope to play around with decorating some. The colors and luminescence achieved on the gourd surface intrigues me. Can that be done on paper?
I did a little searching around and sure enough, there are gourd enthusiasts aplenty. You can go to gourd festivals, and join groups, visit chatrooms, and attend classes both online and in person. You can stain them, carve them, burn them, bead them, and paint them.
Evidently gourds are found on every continent, and as we know, when reminded, have been used for centuries as leak-proof containers.
http://www.welburngourdfarm.com has some great free how-to videos if you want to get started, and I think I will definately bookmark the site for this winter when El Nino hits the west coast. Wonder how much more art and craft materials I can fit into my new studio?
